A biomimetic sensor for a crawling minirobot
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents the development of a biomimetic sensor, with the ability to imitate exteroceptor and proprioceptor functions of invertebrates, such as earthworms. A polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film is selected as the sensing element because it is flexible, highly sensitive and easy to be integrated in different shapes. Perforated PVDF strips are embedded in a segmented silicone shell of a crawling earthworm minirobot with the ability to elongate and contract, thanks to a smart configuration of shape memory alloy actuators. A 4-segment minirobot with a sensorised skin has been fabricated. Experiments on separate sensorised silicone segments and also on the sensorised minirobot show that the biomimetic PVDF-based sensors can detect both the external contact and the internal actions, thus imitating the exteroceptive and proprioceptive sensing capabilities of real earthworms. c © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Studies of a Tripodal Biomimetic Siderophore Analog: An Efficient Encapsulation for Fe(III) Ion
A new tris-(2-aminoethyl)amine (TREN) capped tripodal Schiff base ligand has been developed by mimicking structural features of a natural siderophore, Bacillibactin, by substituting the catechol units with salicylaldehyde and employing amino acid as spacer. Synthesis of the ligand N-[2-[bis[2-[[2-[(2-hydroxyphenyl)methylamino]acetyl] amino]ethyl]amino]ethyl]-2-[(2-hydroxyphenyl)methylamino]...
متن کاملA biomimetic underwater microrobot with multifunctional locomotion
Underwater microrobots are in urgent demand for applications such as pollution detection and video mapping in limited space. Compact structure, multi-functionality, and flexibility are normally considered incompatible characteristics for underwater microrobots. Nevertheless, to accomplish our objectives, we designed a novel inchworm-inspired biomimetic locomotion prototype with ionic polymer me...

The enormous growth of the World Wide Web in recent years has made it necessary to perform resource discovery efficiently. For a crawler it is not an simple task to download the domain specific web pages. This unfocused approach often shows undesired results. Therefore, several new ideas have been proposed, among them a key technique is focused crawling which is able to crawl particular topical...
متن کاملModeling crawling cell movement on soft engineered substrates.
Self-propelled motion, emerging spontaneously or in response to external cues, is a hallmark of living organisms. Systems of self-propelled synthetic particles are also relevant for multiple applications, from targeted drug delivery to the design of self-healing materials. Self-propulsion relies on the force transfer to the surrounding. While self-propelled swimming in the bulk of liquids is fa...
